The Honourable Dato’ Sri Rohani Abdul Karim
The Honourable Dato’ Sri Rohani Abdul Karim, the patron of IWFCI Malaysia, is currently the Minister of Women, Family & Community Development since 2013. She has initiated and implemented several high impact programmes in helping Malaysia become a Caring and Developed Society in accordance with the nation’s vison 2020. Dato’ Sri Rohani holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons.) in Agrobusiness, before going on to obtain an Executive MBA (Member of Beta Gamma Sigma) atOhio University, Athens, United States of America. After serving in the public sector, Dato’ Sri Rohani entered the political arena. She has held various political posts including being appointed as Deputy Minister for Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism and Deputy Minister for Agriculture and Agro-Based Industries.
Dato’ Sri Rohani made the nation proud when she received the Government Leadership Award in recognition of Malaysia’s role in increasing women’s participation in the workforce at the Global Summit of Women 2015, held in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Again she has made the nation proud by being the first Malaysian to be elected as the President of the Management of Social Transformation Programme (MOST), UNESCO (2015-2017) – the only UNESCO programme that fosters and promotes social science research to be used by policy-makers globally.
President — Dato’ Elaine Teh
Dato’ Elaine Teh graduated with a double degree in Economics and Japanese from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Australia. Her skills and ambition saw her embracing the whirlwind industry of retail management, followed by a chain of multi-million dollar ventures in travel, technology and telecommunications. Dato’ Elaine co-founded Octopus Group in 2002, ventured into Luen Heng F&B and is currently holding the title of Chairman. She was honoured for her achievements with the title of “Dato’” in 2013.Dato’ Elaine highly values community involvement and concurrently holds the positions of Council advisor of UNSW, Acting President of Rotary Club of Sentosa Singapore, as well as Chairman of the Rotary Foundation and is the Vice Chair – International Community Service Projects 2015-16. She was formerly Charter Vice-President of Malaysian Association in Singapore, President of Rotary Club of Sentosa and President of the UNSW Alumni Singapore Chapter.
Vice President — Dato’ Zubaidah Md Ismail
Dato’ Zubaidah Md Ismail has extensive experience in project management, financial management, security management, information technology, training and logistics management. Prior to her retirement, Dato’ Zubaidah Md Ismail was the highest ranking woman police officer with 40 years’ of experience in the Royal Malaysia Police. She currently holds the post of Special Advisor to the Minister of Women, Family & Community Development Ministry. During her service in the police force, Dato’ Zubaidah Md Ismail has developed a degree of proficiency in public relations, conference/events management and excellent inter Malaysiangovernment agencies networking. She holds a Master of Science Degree in Security Management & Information Technology from the University of Leicester United Kingdom.
Vice President — Ooi Suan Kim
A Barrister of Lincoln’s Inn UK and Advocate & Solicitor by profession, Kim is also Chairman of Builders Biomass, an integrated bioenergy solutions provider & manufacturer of biomass products & its related biotechnological services. Kim’s outstanding achievements in innovative green technologies and sustainable development gained recognition when Kim was honoured as Top 10 Women Entrepreneurs of Malaysia by HRH Queen of Malaysia, awarded with the Prime Minister’s Best Innovation Award in Green Technology, KeTTHA Industry Award, Malaysia Greentech Award, Frost & Sullivan Malaysia Technology Leadership Award and the ASEAN Business Awards in Innovation. With Kim’s legal expertise in corporate & commercial areas, Kim serves on the Board of Advisors at the University of Sheffield, UK.
Vice President — Prema Nair
With over two decades of experience and expertise in varied range of businesses, corporate planning, strategy development, non-profit and not-for-profit NGOs, Prema is an accomplished individual and is a beacon of inspiration to women across all spheres of pursuit. Eradication of the proverbial glass ceiling for the elevation of women’s achievement in all fields, all organisations across the globe, together with the pursuit for the betterment of women have always been Prema’s areas of interest. Prema’s contribution to the Malaysian chapter of the International Women’s Federation of Commerce and Industry will prove invaluable in garnering attention to its vision, mission, endeavours and networking platforms. Prema is a member of the Australian Institute of Strategic Management and the Malaysia New Zealand Chamber of Commerce. She currently holds directorships in several companies and is involved in and serving in, a diverse range of businesses.
Honorary Secretary— Kattie Hoo
Kattie has been in the hospitality industry for more than 30 years and is passionate about giving back to the community. She believes and uphold firmly on her life philosophy of ‘What I can’t give in monetary sense; I shall give my time and effort’. Not one who sits on her laurels, Kattie has been very involved in numerous CSR initiatives not only for the companies that she worked with but has continuously supported charity drives organised by KIWANIS Club of Bukit Kiara and National Cancer Society in the past. A single mother to four children, she continuously instil into her children and those around her to always lend a helping hand to those in need. As the saying goes, “You ain’t heavy, you are my brothers and sisters” and she always put others need in front of her own. Kattie is presently the Director of Marketing and Communications for Dorsett Hospitality International.
Honorary Treasurer —Esther Choong
An ACCA graduate from TAR College who spent nearly 10 years in the Internal Audit Department of Carlsberg Brewery (M) Bhd. before shifting her profession from auditor to backroom operations by joining a renowned alcoholic beverages company i.e. Luen Heng F&B Sdn. Bhd. Esther being the Operations Director covers various functions while actively driving the growth of the organization. Besides her vast knowledge in both corporate & commercial areas, she is very passionate in teaching whereby she has been a dedicated part time tutor for both primary & secondary students for more than 15 years. The joy and satisfaction in grooming the future generation is what drives her to work long hours and sacrifices her weekends in conducting teaching classes. One of her key principles in life is that position can be given but respect needs to be earned.
Committee Chair (Membership) — Samantha Chan
With a background in the oil and gas industry, Sam is also a specialist in stationary supplies. Having found strength in the rewards of hard work and flexibility in adapting to changing environments, Sam is adventurous and loves to learn new things. She is keen to expand her knowledge and horizon in new experiences and enterprise. Besides indulging in fashion, Sam enjoys travelling and listening to music. Sam advocates awareness and education on nutrition, fitness and mental strength for women to approach a wholistic lifestyle to be happy, healthy and well. She readily put herself forward to further develop her interests through networking and contributing to the goals of IWFCI, Malaysia chapter.
Committee Chair (Transportation) — Dato’ Choi Wei Yee
Dato’ Choi Wei Yee is a certified Accountant ASCPA by profession. She is the Executive Director of Sunlight Taxi Group of companies where she grows the taxi fleets from 1000 to 3500 units in less than 5 years and led the group to venture and diversify into 7 others synergetic businesses since she took over the rein of Sunlight Taxi Group since Year 2012. Her Leadership and business acumen have culminated in many awards and nominations including Junior Chamber International Creative Young Entrepreneur Award, Ernst & Young Women Entrepreneur of the Year Top Nominees, Golden Bull Award, SMI Malaysia Award, Asia Success Award, Asean Outstanding Business Award-Emerging Woman CEO Award, and etc. She is currently actively involved in few NGO, She is holding Treasurer position in Malaysia Retail Chain Association(MRCA), She is committee member of Malaysia Taxi Association (Taxi Gabungan & PPTLK), International Women’s Federation of Commerce & industry (IWFCI), a Charity organizationRoti1 Malaysia and Global Women’s Economic Empowerment Program (GWEE).
Committee Chair (Training & Education) —Rahimah Yeop
Rahimah is the Learning and Development Director of Jendela Ilmu Solutions. She was the Director, Academic Studies, Research and Publications Division, Institute of Diplomacy and Foreign Relations, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Malaysia from April 2011 to April 2015.
She served as an Administrative and Diplomatic officer, Prime Minister’s Department and was posted to Taiwan and Australia. She was a journalist with the New Straits Times. Awarded the Excellence Service Award in 1998, 2006 and 2013 and Ahli Mangku Negara in 1998 and Darjah Paduka Mahkota Perak in 2007. She is a City & Guilds trainer and facilitates soft skills.
Committee Chair (Finance & Banking) —Eunice Chan
Ms Eunice Chan was appointed as the Head of High Net Worth and Affluent Banking on 1st Apr 2014, Community Financial Services, Malayan Banking Berhad. She holds a Bachelor of Commerce and Administration from the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand. Her vast experience coupled with diversity of exposure in various client segments make her keenly intuitive leader, and drive the fastest growing customer segments in the largest consumer bank of Malaysia today. Under her leadership, the intensely competitive high value client segments continue to outpace the industry. Eunice was the Director of Global Securities Services of Maybank and Chief Executive Officer of Maybank Trustee Berhad since 1 Nov 2012. Prior to her appointment, Eunice was the Director of Custodial Services. She joined Maybank Group in 1997 as Head of Business Operations in Mayban Unit Trust Berhad. She has extensive experience in business operations of the Unit Trust and she oversees the fund distribution, network management and operational activities of the company. In 2007, she was appointed as the Head of Business Process Management in Service Level Management and Quality cum Strategic Planning and Performance Management in the Chief Operating Officer’s office. In 2009, she was seconded to the Transformation Office to spearhead the PMO of restructuring initiatives of the Bank. Prior joining Maybank, she was the Share Market Review Analyst for the New Zealand Stock Exchange. Currently, she is also the council member of Maybank Group Women Mentoring Women Council and the member of the Board of Governance for Financial Planning Association of Malaysia.
Committee Chair (Sustainability Development) —Elsie Yeo
Elsie Yeo has long served as trainer of trainers with NGOs focusing on girls and young women; advocating issues on personal empowerment, social responsibility, women’s health and HIV/AIDS awareness. She is an outdoors enthusiast and passionate about environmental conservation education. Elsie aims to keep IWFCIM current and relevant by encouraging balanced growth encompassing the pillars of sustainable development: economic, social and environment. She endeavours to encourage women to contribute to achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: to mitigate poverty, promote prosperity for all and address climate change, in advancing gender equality as driver of development progress. An entrepreneur with background in property and real estate development, Elsie is an investor and director in private companies specialising in unlocking and adding value to land and real estate.
Committee Chair (Hospitality and Tourism) —Christina Toh
Christina Toh is a passionate hospitality leader with over two decades of experience in the Hotel industry. She is currently the Area General Manager (Malaysia) for Dorsett Hospitality International overseeing Dorsett Kuala Lumpur, Silka Maytower Kuala Lumpur and Silka Cheras Kuala Lumpur. Christina is a Certified Hotel Administrator (CHA), a highly-recognised certification from the American Hotels Lodging Education Institute USA, and also a Certified Coaching & Mentoring Professional from the International Coach Federation, USA. She is currently the Vice President for the Malaysian Association of Hotels, Vice President of Skål Club International, Director of Malaysian Association of Hotels Training Education Centre and an active committee member of the ASEAN Hotels & Restaurants Association.
